I thought that young German, who in Wikipedia is defined as a producer of tropical house, would be interested only in mainstream, and that his main aim would be going on the top of radio charts. I thought that an artist belonging to niche musicians who specialises in calm music would never attract his attention. Before that happened, I would have never predicted such a collaboration. Am I glad? Of course I am. The record I am writing about can satisfy both more demanding fans of independent music and fans of mainstream. The record I am writing about can't get out of my head and force me to maltreat the play button. If you look for a dance remix of an indie pop/ indie rock song, read this post and listen what I have to offer.
What I have to offer is Your Soul by Rhodes, but a little bit modified by the German DJ of a worldwide fame - Felix Jaehn. No matter whether you listen to the most popular radio stations or not, you must have heard at least one of his productions - Ain't Nobody (Loves Me Better) and that's why he doesn't have to be introduced here. It is more likely that you have never heard about Rhodes (you may have heard about him if you read my blog regularly, which I doubt... ). You can find out about him in my post written in May. Here I'm gonna write just four words: his voice is hypnotizing.
Your Soul pochodzi z debiutanckiego albumu Davida Rhodes.
The track Your Soul comes from Rhodes's debut album Wishes. If I am expected to find any reference in order to characterise Rhodes for those who have never heard his music, I can tell he sounds a little bit (I'm putting emphasis on these words: a little bit, not much!) like Tom Odell. And that's all. The original version of Your Song is soft and a bit melancholic, whereas Jaehn's edition is dynamic, especially when it comes to the chorus. If dance music played on the radio sounded like Your Song remixed by the young German, it would be much more decent and tasteful.
I'm glad that Rhodes was noticed by Felix Jaehn, the worldwide popular DJ followed by all the mainstream radio stations and teenage press. I hope all those Felix's fans will appreciate Rhodes and get acquainted with his debut album.
